5 Star Principles



1. Self-Preservation/Recreation
This workshop will focus on positive reinforcements such as: sporting events and tournaments (basketball). Participants will be taught healthy living habits such as proper hygiene, proper nutritional diet, and etiquette. Whenever, applicable small outing trips (retreats) can be planned to take the young and community participants out of the cities dwelling and bring them in the country for good air and relaxation.
2. Educational Empowerment
These workshops will focus on working with the school system by being an outlet and a resource for the community schools.
We anticipate providing an afterschool program that will help to develop: a book reading club, tutoring, college prep (application) financial aid guidance and assistance in completion of any college scholarship application.
3. Financial Planning
Young people will be taught long-term financial planning with strong emphasis placed on savings. Young people will be taught how to open bank accounts, balance a check book, manage a household budget and whenever appropriate trips to the financial district to show them where and how the money is made in the world.


4. Leadership/Entrepreneurship
Strong Leaders are needed in our communities and these workshops will help to develop the young people full potential. A number of exercise will focus on leadership traits and skills that are required in order to lead.
Young people will be provided with tools that will assist them in becoming entrepreneurs; and learn what it takes to start your own business. They will be taught motivational strategies that will encourage them to be self-starters and to think out of the box.
Self-Esteem and Confidence building exercise will allow the young people develop Goals and a Plan of Action to ascertain whatever dreams they may have for their future.
5. Spirituality/Mental Health
This setting is based on collecting and gathering information about the youths in the program, by ensuring each young person completes an intake form. The form will allow the agency to know by the questions that are asked the mental state of a young person. This workshop are looking for any signs of depression, anger (rage) family dysfunction and or suicidal ideations. This workshop will explore the topic of values and beliefs and how a person fits into society. This workshop will help release some of the stressor of the outside world; exercises will focus on stress and time management points. In, addition participating youths will have a completed psychosocial (school info etc.)
