The Mentoring Program

The goal of 5 Star’s Mentoring Program is to increase opportunity and break down barriers.

5 Star’s Mentoring Programs set up learning/helping relationships between an adult and an adolescent or between two adolescents. The kind of mentoring depends upon the goals of our Mentees. What do they want or need to accomplish.

Mentors provide adolescents with concentrated adult attention

Adults model the importance of education, hard work, and responsibility as paths to success

Mentees build self-confidence as they are accepted and supported

Mentors experience the development of a meaningful relationship with a yoth and the chance to teach

Mentors broaden adolescents’ horizons and expose them to new experiences.

Our Mentoring Program connects community people who have specific skills and knowledge (Mentors) with youth (Mentees) who need or want the same skills and advantages in their lives. Youth and families in our Mentoring Program, are matched by interest and need.  Our goal is to establish a mutually respectful, supportive program which leads to a more enriched life for both participants.  Our goal is to maintain  a successful program that helps to break down barriers and creates opportunities for success for all involved from office staff to parents and youth.

Our goal is to increase:

Self -esteem

Regard for and comfort with members of other races

Ability to maintain positive relationships with other youth and adults

Decision-making ability in the career-choice process

Our Mentoring Program goals are to noticeably increase school attendance among Mentees

For the roles of non-familial adults in the lives of at-risk youth to benefit in increasing resiliency and success

To encourage people from outside a youth’s everyday world to cooperate to help build positive assets for our youth, giving our community a stake in her or his future

Our Mentoring Program opens new opportunities and understanding for Mentors and Mentees

Our Mentoring Program offers a way to pass valuable skills and knowledge from person to person

Passing opportunities along from one person to another helps ensure that those living in a community have the ability to maintain and improve it.

Our Mentors and role models have a chance to create a new relationship and enjoy successfully teaching someone something new

“It’s an honor to mentor youth in NYC community.  I get great pleasure when I run into a youth and I hear all the negativity they left behind and how they have embraced a new way of life.”
